Lagos ready to host CAF 2026 Awards, Gov Sanwo-Olu assures

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has committed his administration's full backing for the successful organization of the 2026 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards in Lagos on December 7. During a meeting with a CAF delegation headed by Dr Christian Emeruwa, the Project Lead for the CAF Awards and CAF General Assembly, Sanwo-Olu assured the team that crucial arrangements, comprising security, logistics, branding, and venue access, would receive appropriate attention.

The governor emphasized that Lagos is a prominent commercial, cultural, entertainment, and technology hub in Africa, boasting a youthful population and significant economic influence, making it an ideal venue for hosting international events. He pledged to ensure that the CAF Awards provide a memorable experience for CAF officials, football stakeholders, and international visitors, showcasing the state's hospitality and capability to host major global engagements.

Dr Emeruwa informed the governor that the CAF delegation was in Nigeria for a five-day mission to inspect potential venues and evaluate preparations for both the CAF Awards in Lagos and the CAF General Assembly in Abuja. He highlighted the significance of the CAF Awards as one of Africa's major annual non-competitive football events, honoring outstanding players, officials, and national teams for their accomplishments throughout the year.

Emeruwa requested support from the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) for publicity and branding across the state, and emphasized the need for the Lagos State Government to lead security operations in collaboration with the CAF's security team.
