Don't let Zi Yu-Genevie fade away, James warns BAM
KUALA LUMPUR: BA of Malaysia (BAM) must ensure newly crowned world junior champions Low Zi Yu-Genevie Lim do not fade away before fulfilling their potential at senior level.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Badminton Association (BAM) must prevent newly crowned world junior champions Low Zi Yu-Genevie Lim from slipping away before reaching their full potential at the senior level, according to former high performance director Datuk James Selvaraj. Zi Yu-Genevie secured Malaysia's first girls doubles world junior title by defeating Japan's Nijika Kamata-Shizuku Kashio 15-7, 9-15, 15-12 in just 41 minutes at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
Datuk James emphasized the importance of properly developing these young champions, urging BAM to promote them to the senior squad, incorporate them into training alongside senior players, and expose them to stronger senior tournaments such as Super 100 and Super 300 events. He stressed the need for gradual exposure to senior competition, citing the contrasting outcomes of past junior successes in Malaysian badminton.
