Nalini, a resident of Virar who lived with her mother and brother, was discovered deceased near Olanda Naka area in Virar West on Thursday morning. She had been on her regular morning walk prior to her death. Investigations have confirmed that Nalini took her own life by consuming a toxic substance. A suicide note found at the scene revealed that she chose this drastic action due to persistent harassment and blackmail.
Satish Nikam, Senior Police Inspector at the Arnala Coastal Police Station, explained that Nalini had become acquainted with a 27-year-old man named Yogesh Mhapankar, who goes by the alias Saurabh Patki. The accused allegedly enticed Nalini with promises of securing acting roles in web series, TV serials, and advertisements. However, he went on to take explicit photographs and videos of her during their meeting at a flat in Bhayandar.
The extortion continued as the accused demanded money in exchange for not releasing the videos. Despite paying nearly ₹1 crore, Nalini felt compelled to reveal in her suicide note that she could no longer bear the ongoing mental harassment. The accused continued to request for more funds even after receiving the money. Unable to endure this constant pressure, Nalini tragically ended her life.
Police have registered a case against the suspect for extortion and abetment to suicide. The Arnala Coastal Police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.
