Three JoyNews journalists selected for exchange programme in London under UK MEET fellowship
Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways Alhassan Suhuyini says a proper reset of Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) would have involved replacing the existing commissioners and establishing a transparent process for appointing people with proven integrity and credibility.
Esther Nkrumah, Nana Boakye Yiadom, and Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah are three JoyNews journalists chosen for a special exchange program in London under the UK Media and Emerging Technologies (UK MEET) fellowship. This program attracted over 500 applicants, with 30 selected to participate in the fellowship. After undergoing training, practical exercises, and newsroom simulations, 16 participants were chosen to present their proposed investigative stories.
From that group, 10 were selected for the London exchange. These journalists aim to deepen their understanding of science, technology, and innovation reporting while developing stories on how emerging technologies can tackle challenges in Ghana.
Nana Boakye Yiadom's investigation will explore whether Ghana is prepared to invest in artificial intelligence technology for early detection of illegal mining in the country's forest reserves. Esther Nkrumah will investigate the use of drones and AI to identify and manage mosquito breeding sites in Ada East, aiming to curb malaria transmission.
Jacqueline Ansomah Yeboah will focus on AI-driven tools for senior high school teachers to create lesson plans and assessments, assessing their effectiveness, limitations, and implications for teaching and learning. The UK MEET program, led by Imperial Global Ghana and Imperial College London, aims to enhance journalists' capacity to report on science, technology, and emerging innovations accurately, thoroughly, and relevant to the public.
The selected journalists will benefit from this opportunity to engage with experts and further hone their skills in reporting on emerging technologies.
