PRN Sarawak mungkin Disember ini, kata Abdul Karim

Ketua penerangan Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, has suggested that the Sarawak State Election (PRN) might take place in December this year, prior to the expiration of the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) mandate in February of next year. As the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Cultural Industries of Sarawak, Karim stated that although Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg has not announced the date for the dissolution of the DUN, December marks the five-year anniversary since the last PRN was held on 18th December 2021.

According to electoral regulations, PRN must be conducted within 60 days after the dissolution of the DUN.

Karim believes that the election period is becoming shorter and the State Election Commission (SPR) needs to take into account the calendar holidays before deciding on the polling date. "SPR when they decide on the date, need to consider the holiday season. January is the Chinese New Year celebration. After that (February) is the month of Ramadan.

It is impossible to hold the election in January and February," he said at the media briefing organised by DayakDaily. Karim noted that while some have said the election could happen until February, others have suggested it could be as early as December. However, he feels the most likely option is December, as this time frame marks the end of the five-year period since the last PRN.
