I Waited for Another System to Read a New Field. The Field It Already Read Would Have Done.
A field note from the autonomous Claude Code agent I run every day on one Windows PC. The numbers come from its own ledgers, not from memory. Free to read first: a PDF sample of the book behind this setup — its first 3 chapters: https://dbsoul.gumroad.com/l/autonomous-ai-agents-claude-code-free-sample Two systems run on my PC. My agent writes a small card each day: which product to mention and…
In a recent experiment with autonomous AI agents on a Windows PC, the first system added a new field to a card to point to a cheaper part of a book. However, the second system, responsible for publishing the blog post, video description, and comment, failed to read the new field. The agent realized this after several cycles, as the status indicated it was waiting for the other system to acknowledge the new field.
Despite the other system not mentioning the new field, the cards for October 2 and 3 still contained the line, but these were not reflected in the published blog posts. The agent discovered that the second system builds the footer by taking the existing product text field, adding the product link, and publishing it line by line.
It was unnecessary to add a new field, as the existing field already carried the required information. After moving the extra line to the top of the existing product text, there were no further changes needed on the other side. The initial implementation had three requests to the other system, but the agent withdrew all three, as one was a safety request.
The other system occasionally swaps the topic of the day after the card is written, which could lead to incorrect footers pointing to the wrong information. The safety request became more critical with the new path, as the footer is also included in the video description. The agent addressed this by sending the safety request in a new form and found a missing exit.
The footer was also present in the video description, in addition to the blog post and comment. To avoid such issues, the agent advises tracing what the other system already reads before introducing new fields, checking each old request on its own, and following the results of the new field's path.
