Bhopal's Kali Bari Celebrates 70th Durga Puja With Golden Goddess Idol, Nature-Themed Pandal And Traditional Kolkata Dhak Performances

Bhopal's Kali Bari, the city's oldest Bengali association, is observing its 70th Sharodiya Durga Utsav this year with unique rituals, cultural performances, and an eco-conscious nature theme. This year's celebration deviates from the traditional white Dakh Saaj, featuring Goddess Durga and her divine family in a striking golden hue, symbolizing the platinum jubilee year.

The six-day extravaganza commenced on Maha Shasthi with morning prayers and the evening Devi Baron ceremony. The rituals for Maha Saptami are set to begin with Snan Nabo Patrika Pravesh, followed by Anjali Pradan and community bhog distribution. The festivities will progress through Maha Ashtami on October 19, marked by sacred Sandhi Puja rituals.

On Maha Nabomi, October 20, the schedule includes Kumari Puja, Maha Boli, and the traditional Yagna. The celebration will end on Bijoya Dashami, October 21, with Devi Baran, the lively Sindoor Khela, and a grand evening immersion procession. Evening Sandhya Arati and the energetic Dhunochi Dance are held to welcome devotees.

Apart from religious activities, cultural programs such as a musical dance-play, Krishna Baal Leela & Raas Leela performance, and an open-stage talent show have been organized. Salil Chatterjee, general secretary of the association, stated that they are celebrating their 70th year of Durga Puja with a nature theme, showcasing a gold-colored Goddess Durga instead of the traditional white.

The association sourced all Saaj items for the Goddess directly from Kolkata, and they have also brought priests, dhakis, and performing artistes from Kolkata for this celebration.
