On October 17, 2026, astronomers unveiled an awe-inspiring 3D image of Comet 67P, also known as Churyumov-Gerasimenko, captured by the Rosetta spacecraft in July 2015. Using red/blue glasses, viewers could float alongside the comet's distinctive double-lobed nucleus and observe the numerous jets emanating from its active surface.
The larger lobe measured approximately 4 kilometers in diameter, connected to a smaller 2.5 kilometer lobe by a narrow neck. Rosetta's mission concluded in September 2016 with a controlled impact onto the comet's surface. The impressive stereo anaglyph was created by merging two images from the narrow angle OSIRIS camera, positioned 184 kilometers away from the comet.
This image is part of a catalog of nearly 1400 similar anaglyphs generated from Rosetta's image data.
