“When I saw it, I couldn’t believe my eyes.” Hobbyist wildlife photographer snaps photo of a rare albino stag, but that’s not even the only magical encounter from a two-day search

Hobbyist wildlife photographer Brian Johnston spent the summer searching for a rare albino male red deer, known as a "white hart." When a tip led him to believe the stag had returned, Johnston spent a weekend trying to photograph the magical creature. He not only captured several photos of the rare deer but also found two young foxes, two of his long-time wishes.

Johnston, a lorry driver during the week and photographer on weekends, set out with fellow photographer Will Cory near Devon, England. They spotted the white deer but it vanished before they could get a good shot. However, they were delighted to witness two young foxes playing right in front of them. The following day, the photographers returned to the area, and the white stag was spotted sleeping.

After about half an hour, the deer woke up and Johnston managed to capture several photographs. This white stag is Johnston's second photographic encounter, having photographed the creature last fall during the mating season. Albino deer are extremely rare, with leucistic deer being more common. The deer photographed by Johnston has characteristics consistent with albinism.

The unusual sight sparked Johnston's interest in wildlife photography. He advises new photographers to be patient and persistent, listening and waiting for something special to happen.
