Valve roll out Steam Achievement Sets in beta, splitting up games’ perpetually growing trophy masses into DLC and season buckets

Valve has introduced a new Steam feature in beta designed to aid completionists in managing their never-ending quest to 100% games with ever-growing trophy lists. These Steam Achievement Sets, determined by developers, allow developers to categorize achievements into sets, separating DLC trophies from the base game's to-do list. This makes it clearer what has been accomplished so far and where players might want to focus next.

Valve explains that games today live longer, continuing with updates through DLC, expansions, and seasons. However, achievements added with new content can be difficult to discover and may disrupt completion status for players who have already finished the game. To address this, developers can group achievements into specific collections within the overall total, each with its own progress tracking bar.

For instance, they might separate single-player achievements from multiplayer ones, making it easier to determine if they've mastered solo play or received all their accolades with friends. Seasonal games can also utilize temporary sets that only appear when the content or holiday is active, preventing hidden trophies that are no longer accessible.

Upon release, a list of games supporting achievement sets will be available. In addition, Valve is beta testing an overhauled achievements page which provides a summary of overall progress, progress in each achievement set, and details on individual achievements. Global Stats, or the per-achievement completion rates, are now available as a toggle, and search has been expanded with filters for specific achievement sets and locked or unlocked achievements.

Completing an achievement set also grants a special bonus, and players can compare their totals with up to three friends.
