UPSI, HONOR Malaysia sign MoA to establish HONOR AI Lab
IPOH, October 16 — Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) and HONOR Technology (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd have signed a memorandum of agreement to establish the HONOR AI Lab at UPSI. The lab aims to boost education, research, and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI). UPSI's Vice-Chancellor, Prof Datuk Md Amin Md Taff, and HONOR's General Manager, Chen Long, signed the MoA at a ceremony attended by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir.
Prof Md Amin stated that the lab will expand access to AI technology and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and lecturers. The HONOR AI Lab will serve as a hub for AI-related activities, workshops, professional certification programs, student mobility, industrial training, innovation competitions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Zambry praised the lab as a facility for industry-standard AI computing equipment, development tools, and supporting hardware. UPSI students can participate in project-based learning, innovation competitions, mobility programs, and industrial training to gain practical exposure to AI technology.
The professional certification programs will help students develop technical competencies and entrepreneurial skills to meet the demands of a technology-driven job market. HONOR committed to making the AI ecosystem accessible to all users and building a value-sharing ecosystem benefiting students, researchers, and the wider community.
The two-year agreement designates the Tuanku Bainun Library at UPSI's Faculty of Computing and Meta-Technology as the location for the HONOR AI Lab.
