True Detective Season 5 Confirms Antonio Banderas and Nicolas Cage as Its Leads

True Detective Season 5 will feature Antonio Banderas and Nicolas Cage as its star leads, according to a recent announcement. Production for the upcoming season is set to commence in 2027, though an exact release date is still uncertain. The show is set to return to HBO, with showrunner Issa López returning to helm Season 5 after leading Season 4.

The series will shift its setting to Jamaica Bay, New York for the new episodes. Banderas will play the role of Rai García, while Cage will portray Henry Logan. The pair have been rumored to be potential leads for some time, with Cage's involvement first mentioned in August last year. Cage's involvement was initially met with speculation, but his confirmation came recently at New York Comic Con, where he expressed his interest in returning for another season of True Detective.

Banderas' acting credits include The Mask of Zorro, Shrek, and recent roles in Tony and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. Cage, known for his roles in Raising Arizona, Face/Off, and National Treasure, has also appeared in Spider-Noir, Longlegs, and Pig. With previous seasons of True Detective featuring memorable duos like Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, HBO is positioning Season 5 for a strong start.
