Spotify has introduced audiobooks in Ghana starting October 14th. This launch is part of the company's global strategy to expand audiobooks from 22 markets to over 180 by the end of 2026, reaching more than 750 million people who can stream or purchase them on Spotify. Spotify's Free and Premium users in Ghana can add Audiobooks+, a monthly add-on priced at GHS 20, which provides 15 hours of listening.
Users can purchase an additional 10-hour top-up for GHS 24 or buy individual titles. Spotify's VP of Audiobooks, Owen Smith, emphasized that books change how people perceive the world, and audiobooks make reading accessible during various activities like commuting, walking, or winding down.
Key features include Page Match, allowing users to resume reading from the same spot across print, ebook, and audio formats; a dedicated Audiobooks space in the app for easy discovery; automatic tracking of listening progress across over 2,000 devices; sleep timers for end-of-night listening; and the ability to download audiobooks for offline listening.
Ghanaian authors can access the Spotify for Authors platform, which enables them to distribute their audiobooks globally. The platform will continue expanding with new partners and local authors uploading their work. Since the launch of audiobooks on Spotify Premium, monthly listeners have increased by nearly 40%, and listening hours have grown over 30%.
Audiobooks+ has amassed more than one million subscribers in just over a year. Users can update their Spotify app and access the Audiobooks hub or search for any title to start listening.
