Qatar highlights support for 9.5 million displaced people

Qatar has underscored its commitment to supporting 9.5 million displaced individuals and host communities worldwide over recent years, amplifying its role as a strategic partner to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).

In remarks made during the 77th session of the UNHCR Executive Committee in Geneva, Second Secretary Abdulaziz Mohammed Al Mansouri from the Permanent Mission of Qatar to the United Nations Office highlighted the impact of Qatar's humanitarian aid on various UNHCR-led programmes. These programmes have provided crucial assistance, services, and protection to millions of refugees, forcibly displaced individuals, and members of host communities.

Al Mansouri praised UNHCR's leadership under Dr. Barham Salih for coordinating international efforts to protect refugees and create a better future for them. He strongly condemned any attempt to forcibly displace the Palestinian people or modify the demographic composition of the occupied Palestinian territory. He urged the international community to prevent Israel from pursuing settlement and expansionist policies.

Al Mansouri emphasized the necessity of supporting UNRWA and finding a just resolution to the Palestinian refugee issue in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions. He stressed the importance of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and stressed the need to strengthen international protection for refugees and uphold international law.

Qatar has been actively involved in implementing the Global Compact on Refugees and looks forward to renewing commitments and expanding partnerships at the 2027 Global Refugee Forum. From 2012 to June 2026, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) contributed more than USD 544 million in aid to refugees and host countries, with funding allocated across multiple sectors such as education, health, relief, and economic growth.

The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation has recently renewed its collaboration with UNHCR to help 200,000 refugee children out of school gain access to education by 2028.
