Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan Compete on David Byrne’s Gameshow in “Expectations” Video
The You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love song gets a remix in Roan’s hands
Olivia Rodrigo enlisted her former tour opener, Chappell Roan, to collaborate on remixing "Expectations," a standout track from Rodrigo's latest album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. To further hype the release, Rodrigo and Roan starred in a gameshow-style music video, hosted by David Byrne, a known admirer of Rodrigo's work.
The video also featured the pair's producer, Dan Nigro. Rodrigo is on tour promoting her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, following her 2023 release Guts. This album showcases Rodrigo's growth, both musically with hits like "The Cure," "Serena Joy," and her duet with Robert Smith "What's Wrong With Me," and externally through her live performances.
She organized the first charity music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, featuring a lineup celebrating womanhood. Roan's journey to success included releasing her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, in 2023 after years of songwriting. Her popularity soared after opening for Rodrigo and performing at music festivals.
Roan went on to win Best New Artist at the 2025 Grammys for "The Giver," her first single after her LP, followed by "The Subway," which earned her two Grammy nominations.
