Muted Response by NATO to First-Ever Russian Drone Attack vs. Cargo Ship in Romanian Territory
Burning tankers notwithstanding, Romania and NATO reacted cautiously to Russian drone strikes on two civilian tankers near Sulina, one inside Romanian territorial waters, the other with lethal results. Officials said the air attack was “unacceptable” but invoked neither NATO Articles 4 or 5. Rutte said NATO’s eastern flank is solid but did not mention Russia.
