KP Governor Kundi announces amended welfare scheme for police officers, martyrs’ families

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Governor, Faisal Karim Kundi, recently unveiled modifications to the compensation packages for police officers who have been martyred or injured while on duty. This move aims to bolster peace in the region. The new scheme has raised compensation for the families of martyred officers, opting to pay them cash in lieu of plots.

The compensation for the families of martyred constables, head constables, assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), sub-inspectors (SIs), and inspectors has been increased from Rs11 million to Rs17 million. For the families of martyred deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and assistant superintendents of police (ASPs), the compensation has risen from Rs16 million to Rs25 million.

Similarly, the families of martyred superintendents of police (SPs), senior superintendents of police (SSPs), assistant inspector generals (AIGs), and grade 18 and 19 officers will now receive Rs30 million, up from Rs21 million.

Injuries sustained by police officers have also seen significant compensation increases. Permanent disability was previously compensated at Rs500,000, but the government has increased this tenfold to Rs5 million. Severe injuries have been compensated at Rs1.5 million, up from Rs100,000. The families of martyred police officers were previously allocated plots, but these often proved inconvenient for families residing in certain areas.

Under the new scheme, the families now receive financial compensation instead of plots. For instance, the families of martyred constables and head constables will receive Rs18 million in cash for a five-marla plot, while those who received seven-marla plots will receive Rs25 million in cash.

Governor Kundi emphasized that the new compensation scheme provides families with the freedom to decide how to use the money, whether to rent a house, buy a plot or a house in their preferred location. The government has also announced a new compensation package for the families of police officers killed while off duty, with compensation ranging from Rs4 million for constables and head constables to Rs7 million for SPs, SSPs, and officers in grades 18 and 19.

Additionally, Kundi announced a compensation of Rs1 million to help fund the weddings of the daughters of martyred officers, describing it as essential financial assistance. Children of martyred officers will benefit from a new fund for their education, including studies abroad.

Kundi also highlighted that salaries of KP police officers have been increased significantly, making their pay packages more attractive than those offered in other provinces. He directed the authorities to expedite the recruitment process, which currently has 17,000 vacancies. Kundi concluded his announcement by stating that the days of rifts between the Centre and the province are gone, and now, they should work together for the province's peace and prosperity.
