Klitschko announces start of heating season in Kyiv
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko has announced the start of the heating season in Kyiv, with the exception of parts of the Dniprovsky and Darnytsky districts, where an energy facility recently sustained significant damage.
On Friday, October 16, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko addressed the heads of the city's districts, instructing them to prioritize funding for shelter arrangements. Kyiv currently boasts nearly 4,400 shelters of various types and ownership forms. Between 2022 and 2026, the city allocated approximately UAH 7 billion for shelter construction, repair, and arrangement. However, some microdistricts lack a sufficient number of equipped shelters within walking distance.
Klitschko emphasized that district heads must promptly address resident appeals and eliminate shortcomings in shelters, as they bear personal responsibility before residents. During the collegium, the installation of mobile shelters was also discussed. Last year, districts received funds for this purpose but did not install the shelters, returning the funds to the city budget. This year, they did not request additional money for mobile shelter installations, prompting Klitschko to find alternative solutions.
The first batch of 14 mobile shelters will soon be installed by Kyivpastrans at public transport stops. Klitschko appealed to businesses to support the city, with the first shelter funded by patrons installed on Beresteisky Avenue. He instructed district heads not to withdraw from the issue of installing mobile shelters and to reallocate funds within the allocated budget.
Klitschko warned that ignoring this issue would be considered sabotage and threatened to publish the names of district leaders who fail to prioritize shelter installation.
