Katara opens ‘Shaping the Trace: The Evolution of Artistic Practice’ exhibition

Doha – The Cultural Village Foundation, Katara, has inaugurated the exhibition "Shaping the Trace: The Evolution of Artistic Practice" by Portuguese artist Cristina Alves. This collaboration with the Embassy of the Portuguese Republic in Qatar was well-attended by Katara's General Manager, Prof. Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al-Sulaiti, as well as several ambassadors, diplomatic mission representatives, artists, and visual arts enthusiasts.

The exhibition showcases 54 artworks, tracing Alves' creative journey from early sculpture explorations to her current mural works and intricate sculptural pieces. Alves utilizes a wide array of natural and recycled materials, such as fibres, fabrics, ropes, shells, stones, metallic elements, and pigments, to create a distinctive art style dubbed "Orisascape."

These pieces reflect the evolution of her practice, which delves into themes of identity, human memory, nature, and humanity's relationship with the environment. The works incorporate elements inspired by the sea, coastal communities, and concepts like balance, liberation, change, and continuity. Alves transforms discarded materials into a new visual language, imbuing them with meaning beyond their original purpose.

Open from October 15 to October 28, 2026, in Hall 2 of Building 47, the exhibition runs from 10am to 10pm. The event underscores Katara's commitment to cultural exchange, inviting visitors to explore international artistic practices and contemporary visual art trends.
