FSSAI licences of nine restaurants in Telangana’s Medak, Kamareddy and Nizamabad suspended over food safety violations
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licences of nine restaurants in Medak, Kamareddy, and Nizamabad districts due to multiple food safety and hygiene violations. This decision came after a special enforcement drive conducted by 10 teams, which inspected a total of 20 restaurants across the three districts on Tuesday, October 6.
During the inspections, TG SAFE officials discovered various issues, including the presence of houseflies, cockroaches, rodents, and rat faeces at some locations. Other violations included the storage of expired food items and spoiled vegetables, unhygienic kitchen conditions, improper storage and labelling of food, poor drainage systems, and inadequately cleaned utensils. In response to these violations, expired and contaminated food items were immediately discarded at the scene.
In addition to issuing 21 food samples for suspicion of adulteration, TG SAFE has ordered five establishments to issue improvement notices, while six others have received showcause notices and will face further action for penalties. Those with improvement notices will be re-inspected to verify compliance, while those with showcause notices will be subject to additional penalties, as per TG SAFE's statement.
