The Bekaert plant in Macchiareddu, Cagliari, has started a new chapter under the ownership of Nuova Icom, a Sardinian company with 1,100 employees. The plant, which previously produced reinforcement cords for tires, will now focus on production for national and international markets without any layoffs. Nuova Icom's CEO, Alessandro Calledda, stated that all 150 workers will undergo retraining before being integrated into the company, with the goal of increasing the workforce to over 1,200 people.
The acquisition has been welcomed by trade unions, who see it as a positive development in a region with many economic challenges.
