Steven Gerrard, a former Liverpool star, has criticized Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez for his recent remarks about the team. Gerrard believed that Martinez has caused more problems with his comments, urging him to remain silent and concentrate on his performance on the field. Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Gerrard stated, "That (Martinez's outburst) tells me that the senior players are discussing it as a group."
He admired Martinez for attempting to be honest and supportive, protecting Michael Carrick, but added that Martinez had made matters worse. Gerrard questioned why Martinez hadn't spoken up after a similar mistake during the Tottenham match, suggesting that he should simply remain quiet and defend the team. Martinez had previously criticized Manchester United's management for failing to invest in new players during the summer transfer window, following United's 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid.
