Enam cip hasil inovasi tempatan cerminan kemajuan Malaysia, kata Akmal

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Nasir has hailed the development of six locally-made semiconductor chips, which he said mark Malaysia's progress from being a manufacturing hub to a country that can design, develop and own its technology. Speaking at the AiSEM@SELANGOR 2026 event, Akmal stated that these innovations demonstrate Malaysia's ability to move from production to creation and acquisition of technology after five decades of establishing itself as a trusted nation in the world's semiconductor industry.

He informed that the total potential sales value of these six innovations is around RM300 million, highlighting the commercial opportunities available for locally-made semiconductor technology. He hopes that these six introduced innovations will pave the way for more successful locally-made technologies and strengthen Malaysia's position in the global value chain.

The event showcased six semiconductor innovations developed by companies in the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park, including Edge-AI processor MARS1000 by SkyeChip for cameras, robots, and manufacturing systems; aiDAPTIV+ storage solution by MaiStorage for personal computers and AI-based servers; field-programmable gate array (FPGA) by SiliconX for industrial and automotive applications; low-dropout voltage regulator from Infinecs for automotive power stabilization; power control unit from Weeroc Space for satellites and space exploration systems; and FC Mini flight controller from Alphaswift for autonomous drones.

The semiconductor industry is a significant contributor to Malaysia's economy, contributing around 6% to Gross Domestic Product (GDP), 26% of exports, and 40% of approved foreign direct investments. Through the 2027 Budget, Khazanah Nasional Bhd and the Retirement Fund Corporation (Public Pension Fund) (KWAP) will invest RM1.2 billion to support local semiconductor companies moving into higher-value industries.

The budget also sets aside RM100 million in a Strategic Investment Fund to be created by Khazanah Nasional Bhd and InvestPenang to support early-stage semiconductor and manufacturing companies.
