Dansville welcomes 3 to Athletic Wall of Fame. Meet the newest members

On Friday, October 9, the Dansville High School Athletic Wall of Fame honored three outstanding alumni during halftime of the Homecoming football game. The new inductees are Danielle Potter, Steve Williams, and Barbara (Miner) Sweet.

David Moodie, chair of the Athletic Wall of Fame Committee, expressed immense pride in welcoming these three Mustangs to the prestigious wall. Moodie highlighted the exceptional athletes who have contributed to the rich tradition of excellence at Dansville High School.

Danielle Potter, a Class of 2011 graduate, showcased her prowess in three sports: cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. She was named twice as a league all-star and claimed three Livingston County League championships, along with five individual sectional championships in steeplechase, 400-meter hurdles, and long jump.

Potter was a key member of the indoor track 4x800-meter relay team that won a sectional championship in 2008 and part of the 2007 Class C sectional championship cross country team. She also participated as a three-time state meet qualifier.

Barb (Miner) Sweet, a Class of 1977 alumnus, was an outstanding four-sport athlete, competing in soccer, volleyball, basketball, and softball. She earned 16 varsity letters and started every game throughout her four-year varsity career. Named most valuable player in 1975, Sweet served as a three-year team captain. Beyond her athletic achievements, she dedicated herself to promoting women’s athletics as an editor for the Dansville Breeze, sharing scores and highlights through her column, "Hi Lites" by Barb Miner.

Sweet continued her passion for athletics throughout her career, serving as a health and physical education teacher, coaching various sports for over 50 seasons, and officiating for eight seasons.

Steve Williams, a Class of 1967 graduate, was a remarkable football player. As a four-year football player, Williams demonstrated exceptional leadership, earning him the title of the "heart and soul" of Dansville’s undefeated varsity football team in 1966. He was co-captain of that undefeated team and was selected as a Livingston County all-star that same year.

Williams played as a starting linebacker and fullback, leading the team in rushing yards during the 1966 undefeated season. He was also a member of the varsity wrestling team during his high school years.
