Austin FC responds to walkout after removal of fan with 'Abolish ICE' shirt at Q2 Stadium
Austin FC has issued a statement after its fans staged a walkout over the club's handling of a fan wearing an "Abolish ICE" shirt.
Austin FC has responded to protests from supporters groups after removing a fan wearing an "Abolish ICE" shirt from Q2 Stadium. The club met with three supporter groups - La Murga, Austin Anthem, and Los Verdes - and stated its priority is protecting vulnerable Hispanic and immigrant communities. The September 26 removal of Daniela Silva, who was escorted from the stadium for violating Q2's venue policy, led to significant backlash online.
Austin FC offered to rescind the ban and contacted Silva, but a criminal trespass notice remains active. Supporters groups urged the club to take a stance against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Austin FC expressed empathy for the anxiety felt by fans and emphasized its commitment to the community.
