The Sri Lanka Natural History Society (SLNHS) is set to host a public lecture titled "From the Zoo to the Wild – A Wildlife Veterinarian’s Journey" on 20 October at the University of Colombo. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be delivered by Dr Ganga Wijesinghe, a wildlife veterinarian with over 28 years of experience in wildlife veterinary medicine, One Health coordination, and wildlife forensics.

The lecture will delve into the unique challenges of treating animals in zoo environments compared to working in the wild, where interventions must consider animal survival, ecological conditions, and wildlife population health. Additionally, the SLNHS, in collaboration with the Nature Foundation, will screen the documentary Last Roundup at 5 pm, showcasing Sri Lanka’s first translocation of an elephant herd using tranquillisation.

The event will commence at 6 pm at the Auditorium on the sixth floor of the ILC (Library) Building, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, with online participation available via Zoom.
