Upscale grocery chain Erewhon will now fry its hot bar foods in this regeneratively farmed oil

Erewhon, the upscale Los Angeles health-food grocer, is making a change to its hot bar by switching from avocado oil to Zero Acre Farms’ Organic Fera fruit oil for frying. Fera fruit oil is made from the fruit of a hybrid palm tree and is considered a more sustainable alternative to seed oils like soybean, canola, and peanut oil, which are often used in restaurant kitchens.

While seed oils are high in polyunsaturated fats that can oxidize when heated, Fera fruit oil is high in monounsaturated fats and is more stable at high temperatures. It is also half the price of avocado oil. In addition to being more sustainable, Fera fruit oil is also Regenerative Organic Certified at the Gold level, meaning it is grown on farms that prioritize soil health and climate-friendly practices.

Erewhon uses avocado oil and avocado oil for other cooking needs and select dressings. All 15 of the grocer's locations will now exclusively use Fera fruit oil for frying, which has received positive feedback from customers, with many noting that the buffalo cauliflower and chicken tenders taste better and are crisper. Zero Acre Farms provided training for Erewhon staff and even shared videos of the South American farms where the fruit is grown.

Customers can learn more about the oil and its health and environmental benefits through QR codes at Erewhon hot food bars.
