Roof collapse at Pakistan school kills 31

A school roof collapse in Peshawar, Pakistan has resulted in at least 31 deaths and numerous injuries, according to local authorities. Rescue efforts are ongoing as rescue personnel continue to search the debris for any remaining victims. The school, situated in the heart of the city, was hosting 110 students at the time of the collapse.

Emergency services spokesperson Bilal Faizi stated that all victims were 13 years old or younger. Some of the injured are in critical condition, as reported by Mohammad Asim of Lady Reading Hospital. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse, which appears to have been due to the building's use of weak materials and its capacity to hold excessive weight.

The owner of the building has been arrested as part of the ongoing investigation. Peshawar Police Chief Mian Saeed confirmed that the building was located in a densely populated area, and rescue teams arrived at the scene swiftly following the incident. Initially, authorities reported 33 fatalities, but this number has been revised to 31, as confirmed by officials.
