PZ Cussons Ghana promotes hand washing among schoolchildren through Camel campaign

PZ Cussons Ghana Limited is championing hand-washing education among schoolchildren, emphasizing that habits formed in early life can prevent infections and enhance public health. The company utilized its Camel brand to instruct pupils at Christ the King School on appropriate hand-washing techniques as part of its Global Handwashing Day activities.

The event included practical demonstrations and interactive sessions meant to help students grasp the significance of washing hands with soap and incorporating the practice into their daily routines.

Bright Anomah, Head of Marketing at PZ Cussons Ghana Limited, explained that targeting children was intentional, as lessons learned at a young age can shape lifelong hygiene practices. He emphasized that educating pupils on the when and how of hand washing could safeguard them from infections and empower them to share this knowledge with their families and communities.

Anomah also advocated for increased private-sector participation in public health education, stressing that it is not solely the government's duty. He argued that businesses like PZ Cussons have a responsibility to contribute to social development through initiatives that promote health awareness.

Matilda Adu Boateng, Brand Ambassador for Camel, encouraged consumers to integrate hand washing into their daily hygiene routines, highlighting the benefits of Camel Antibacterial Soap. This product is said to protect against germs, moisturize the skin, and eliminate odor. While PZ Cussons did not independently verify the product's germ-killing claim for this report, pupils who took part in the session demonstrated their understanding of the importance of hand washing and pinpointed critical moments, such as before eating and after using the toilet, when the practice is essential.

One student shared that the session had clarified the importance of hand washing in protecting against germs and infections, expressing gratitude to Camel Ghana. This year's Global Handwashing Day, celebrated under the theme "Be a Handwashing Hero," encourages individuals, families, schools, communities, and businesses to make hand washing a consistent part of everyday life.

PZ Cussons views this campaign as part of its broader efforts to promote hygiene awareness and encourage practices that contribute to healthier communities. The initiative underscores the importance of reinforcing hand-washing lessons beyond special campaigns, so children can maintain proper hygiene consistently at school and at home.
