NBC's Newlyweds Adds Former Conners Boss As New Showrunner After Co-Creator Exit
NBC's Newlyweds are getting a new boss behind the scenes: The Conners veteran Bruce Helford will take over as showrunner following Gail Lerner's exit.
Newlyweds television series has appointed a new showrunner in Bruce Helford, a seasoned TV producer known for his work on The Conners. This comes after co-creator Gail Lerner stepped down from her role following creative disagreements, as announced on Instagram last week. Lerner, who co-created the show with Jamie Lee Curtis, expressed her sadness at leaving the show, describing it as the most joyful TV experience of her life.
Helford, who previously worked on The Drew Carey Show and co-created George Lopez and Anger Management, has extensive experience in the industry. Newlyweds, set to premiere on NBC on October 23 at 8:30 p.m., is described as a later-in-life love story, starring real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly as Jeanie and James. The show also features co-star Jamie Lee Curtis as James' ex-wife Claudia, alongside Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O'Neill, and Al Madrigal.
