Nana Fitz Warns GFA Against Rushing Coach Appointment

Veteran football administrator Fitzgerald Barkers Woode, popularly known as Nana Fitz, has cautioned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) against hasty decisions in appointing the next head coach for the Black Stars. Nana Fitz believes the selection process should prioritize a thorough evaluation of the candidate's comprehension of Ghanaian football over the urgency to replace Carlos Queiroz quickly.

Queiroz's exit came after a challenging commencement to Ghana's 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, marked by a 2-0 loss to Côte d’Ivoire away before a 4-2 defeat against The Gambia at home. Consequently, the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports have established a five-member committee tasked with reviewing applications, conducting interviews, and identifying the most suitable candidates.

The deadline for submitting applications is set for October 15. Ghana is scheduled to play Somalia twice in November at the Accra Sports Stadium, and an interim technical team is expected to manage the fixtures while the search for a permanent manager unfolds. Nana Fitz stressed that the subsequent appointment should mirror the true essence of football in Ghana, encompassing the nation's playing approach, local obstacles, and accessible resources.

He contends that a coach with a solid understanding of these aspects would be better positioned to acclimate swiftly to the role and satisfy expectations. Currently, the Black Stars find themselves at the bottom of Group C in the AFCON qualifying tournament without any points from their first two matches.
