The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized counterfeit packaging materials worth over ₦200 million from five shops at Old Court Road Market in Aba, Abia State. The operation, which targeted shops suspected of producing and supplying fake alcoholic beverages and other products, uncovered counterfeit labels, corks, packs, and outer packaging materials with brand names such as Jameson, Glenfiddich, and Seaman’s Aromatic Schnapps.
NAFDAC's Investigation and Enforcement operatives faced resistance from traders during the raid, making it difficult to evacuate the seized materials. The market union chairman has pledged to ensure the security of the sealed shops and assist in identifying the shop owners.
