Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tarik Skubal is set to become the top free agent of the upcoming offseason, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal. The twist this offseason is the looming threat of a lockout, which could force Skubal to sign his massive contract before the early December deadline. Skubal's agent, Scott Boras, aims for the best possible deal, hoping for a record-breaking free agent contract for a pitcher.
If the lockout occurs, signing before would eliminate the uncertainty of a new CBA and ensure Skubal is immediately signed under the new system. Boras is likely to use the deadline to his advantage, just as Corey Seager and Marcus Semien did during the previous lockout. Teams remain interested in Skubal, but the advantage for them would be locking him into a contract early to avoid any potential issues arising from the uncertain post-lockout landscape.
