Mike Tomlin opens up on potential autism traits and Minecraft passion after NFL career

Mike Tomlin, the former head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has offered an insight into his life away from football in a recent GQ interview. The 54-year-old coach, known for his stoic demeanor during games, revealed his interest in Minecraft, a video game that has become a significant hobby in his post-NFL career.

Tomlin, who has kept his personal life largely private, suggested that he may be on the autism spectrum. His wife supports this observation, though Tomlin did not explicitly state that he has received a diagnosis. The coach's comment was his speculation, stemming from his extensive involvement in Minecraft.

Minecraft, which Tomlin started playing to connect with his children, has evolved into a detailed project involving high-rise buildings, hotels, and other structures. He continued working on this virtual city even after his sons left for college. Recently, Tomlin released a video tour showcasing the extensive work he has put into the project, giving fans a rare glimpse into this side of his life that has remained separate from his NFL career.

In addition to his passion for Minecraft, Tomlin also discussed how coaching has influenced his public persona. He noted, "They don't want to know that you're a human," acknowledging the façade often required in the public eye. Since stepping down from the Steelers in January following a playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Tomlin has joined NBC's "Football Night in America" as an analyst and has spent more time with his family.

Whether he will return to coaching remains undecided, but his latest interview has provided fans with a more personal look at the man behind the familiar sideline presence.
