Mike Hesson Set to Continue as Pakistan’s Test Head Coach

Mike Hesson is set to continue as Pakistan’s Test head coach for an upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka in November. Sources indicate that Hesson, who was initially appointed as an interim head coach before Pakistan’s third Test against England, is likely to retain his responsibilities for the Sri Lanka series. However, an official confirmation has not been released yet.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) removed head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling coach Umar Gul after two losses to England and subsequently replaced seven players in the squad. Hesson had earlier shown interest in taking up the permanent head coaching role but emphasized that it would require time to enhance the team’s performance.

The Sri Lanka series will be part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27, with the first Test scheduled from November 9 to 13 in Rawalpindi, followed by the second Test in Lahore from November 17 to 21. Hesson is currently the permanent head coach for Pakistan’s white-ball cricket and led the team to a 2-1 victory in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka.

He commended T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan’s leadership and expressed optimism regarding young fast bowler Razaullah, who made his international debut in the third Test against England.
