It’s our first away day in Europe!
Portsmouth, England - October 15, 2026 - On Thursday evening, Torreense will face Sunderland in an away game of the UEFA Europa League at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa in Leiria, Portugal. The match kicks off at 17:45 and will be covered live on TNT Sports, with commentary on BBC Radio Newcastle. Fifty-three years have passed since Sunderland's last European away fixture, when they traveled to Portugal to face Sporting Lisbon. This time, Torreense will be their competition. The match may feel significant for the team after their last game against Brighton, with increased pressure to secure a result before their Sunday match against Bournemouth.
Manager Regis Le Bris has made four changes for the match, surprising some fans. The Torreense team is a surprise prospect, having won the Portuguese Cup last year but currently sitting 15th in the second tier. They did, however, defeat Lillestrom in their first Europa League game. While the visitors present a challenge, the Lads should approach the game with confidence.
Sunderland's odds to win the match are 4/11, while Torreense are long odds at 6/1 for victory. The draw is offered at 15/4.
