Kano NDC hopes INEC will reinstate Gwarzo, running mate on 2027 candidate list

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State is optimistic that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will reinstate Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo and his running mate to the 2027 governorship election candidate list. This outcome hinges on the assumption that their exclusion was unintentional. The party’s Kano State chairman, Hussaini Isah Mai Riga, announced that the NDC had reported the issue to their national leadership, which subsequently contacted INEC to seek clarification on the matter.

Mai Riga informed that INEC has agreed to undertake an investigation into the omission to ascertain whether it was a mistake. He stated, "We have written to our National Secretariat and they have escalated it also to INEC. INEC said it will investigate that if it’s a mistake, of course, it will restore our candidates’ status. So we are now waiting for their response."

Gwarzo and his running mate were not included in INEC’s conclusive list of Kano governorship candidates, which has sparked concerns regarding the NDC’s involvement in the 2027 election. Consequently, the NDC is seeking an explanation from INEC, hoping the inquiry will clarify the situation. The leadership of the party is eagerly awaiting INEC’s findings, which will determine whether the two candidates can be readmitted to the ballot if the exclusion was due to an administrative or other error. Currently, the Kano NDC leadership is anticipating an official response from INEC.
