Former NBA champion Jason Williams publicly criticized Philadelphia 76ers guard VJ Edgecombe for prioritizing representing the Bahamas at the Olympics over winning an NBA championship. This came as Philadelphia entered the 2026-27 season with championship expectations, and Edgecombe had previously declared a championship-or-bust mentality.
Williams strongly disagreed with Edgecombe's priorities, arguing that professional athletes should place greater importance on the organizations paying their salaries. In a response to Edgecombe's Olympic ambitions, Williams stated on his Hoopin’ N Hollerin’ podcast, “The motherf**kers that are paying me my check means way more to me than them.”
