Swank attributes her decision to have children later in life to her increased work flexibility and personal comfort.

In her interview, Swank explained that her early 20s and 30s would have made her a different kind of parent than the one she is now. She enjoys the work flexibility that allows her to take an extended maternity leave, with the average length in the US being only three months. Swank also emphasized the importance of having more time with her children, stating that it helps her empathize with other parents who work long hours and cannot spend as much time with their kids.

Swank mentioned that she has more mental energy to devote to her children now, as she no longer has to focus on herself as much as she did during her career breakthrough in her 20s and 30s. She expressed that she has more patience and grace to give to her children and others around her. She also noted that she feels more comfortable with herself at this stage in her life, as the things that once mattered to her are no longer at the forefront.

Swank is not alone in her feelings; other older parents also appreciate the time they had to figure themselves out before becoming parents. Swank's mother even expressed that she would have preferred to be 45 rather than her actual age.
