Google releases new firmware update for older Nest speakers
A handful of older speakers are getting audio streaming upgrades, as well as fixes for smart-home controls and connectivity.
Google is preparing a firmware update for older Nest speakers, including the Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Google Home, and Google Home Mini models. The update, version 3.79.550760, is currently being tested through the Google Home Preview Program. To be eligible, users must sign up to the program through the Google Home app, where they can enable it in their Device Information settings.
The update aims to enhance audio streaming and smart home controls, as well as improve overall performance and stability. While the latest audio devices, such as the Google Home Max and Google Home Speaker, will receive bug fixes, they are currently excluded from the main update. Google continues to support its older smart-home devices, even as it shifts focus towards new hardware, demonstrating its commitment to its existing user base.
