Thieves broke into the Maha Shakti Mata Temple in Sindh's Shikarpur district and absconded with gold jewelry, cash, antiques, and other valuable items reportedly worth millions of rupees. The intruders reportedly forced open locks to gain entry, an area under the jurisdiction of Stuart Gunj police station. Temple management disclosed that stolen items included ornaments offered to deities, including a gold necklace removed from an idol.
The culprits also breached a secure compartment containing money and donations from devotees. Antique artifacts, crockery, and valuable possessions kept in cupboards were also found missing. Poon Kumar, the temple custodian, stated the stolen property included precious antiques and gold. Some of the cash and supplies had been earmarked to assist those in need, he added.
Temple management appealed to the police to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen belongings. Shikarpur's Senior Superintendent of Police Muhammad Kaleem requested an initial report from ASP City Muhammad Asif, directing officers to explore all possible leads. A police spokesperson revealed that the SSP ordered investigators to employ advanced technology to assist in identifying and apprehending the suspects.
He emphasized that protecting religious sites and safeguarding citizens' lives and property remain top priorities for district police.
