GES declares October 30 CPD day for private school teachers; learners to observe holiday

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has designated October 30, 2026, as a National Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Day for teachers in private schools, with learners expected to have the day off. This decision, announced on October 13, 2026, is part of an initiative to promote the mental health and psychosocial well-being of educators. The theme for the day's training is "Mental Health and Psychosocial Well-being of Teachers."

The approval came after a request from the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS) and the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS). Both organizations advocated for October 30 to be designated as a national CPD day for private schools throughout Ghana, with the day also serving as a holiday for students.

The training is designed to equip teachers with practical strategies to maintain their mental and emotional well-being, enhance their resilience, and contribute to a more supportive educational environment. Regional Directors have been instructed to inform Metro, Municipal, and District Directors of Education about the approved training day.

These regional officials are tasked with coordinating with District Training Officers to ensure the participation of private schools in their respective districts. The GES expects education authorities at the regional and district levels to play a critical role in coordinating the implementation of this initiative across the country.
