FingerMotion plans Alberta energy park for computing clients
FingerMotion, Inc. (NASDAQ:FNGR) has revealed plans to participate in a proposed energy park in eastern-central Alberta. The park is proposed to be constructed by an Alberta landowner and will be built according to Alberta’s bring your own power framework, featuring on-site natural-gas-fired generation and battery storage. The project aims to develop up to 500 MW of capacity in 75 MW increments, catering to high-performance computing and digital infrastructure clients.
The first phase, expected to be 75 MW, hinges upon the successful completion of land acquisition, local land-use approvals, Alberta Utilities Commission approval of generation facilities, gas supply agreements, and project financing.
The primary objective of this energy park is to generate additional power within the province instead of relying on the provincial grid. To achieve this, development will proceed in 75 MW phases, enabling regulators, local authorities, and nearby communities to review each stage before proceeding to the next. Before submitting regulatory applications, the partners aim to conduct a participant involvement program in accordance with Alberta Utilities Commission requirements.
This program will include open houses in surrounding communities, direct engagement with landowners and residents, and interactions with Indigenous communities.
BlueFlare Group Holdings Inc. is partnering with FingerMotion on this project. BlueFlare has already received multiple written, non-binding expressions of interest from prospective high-performance computing customers for FingerMotion’s permitted 9.9 MW campus in the County of Newell, Brooks Campus #1. BlueFlare is currently evaluating these proposals and anticipates recommending a lead offtake customer to FingerMotion.
The company has emphasized that any definitive agreement is subject to negotiation and execution, with no guarantee that expressions of interest will ultimately result in a binding contract. FingerMotion, a technology firm with a focus on mobile payment, recharge, and data-analytics markets in China, is leveraging its relationship with BlueFlare to develop behind-the-meter powered data-center capacity in Alberta.
