Federal DOT grants will fund more than 2,400 parking spots

The Department of Transportation has announced funding for more than 2,400 new truck parking spaces as part of the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight & Highway Projects (INFRA) program. This initiative aims to address the national shortage of commercial motor vehicle parking, reduce fatigue-related accidents, improve supply chain fluidity, and provide essential infrastructure along critical freight corridors.

The 14 approved projects will see the construction of a total of 2,403 new parking spots across various locations, from Tennessee to California. The largest project, with 500 spots, is located in Tennessee and will be built at five Pilot Travel Center locations near Nashville and Knoxville. Other significant projects include a 305-spot project in Los Indios, Texas, near the Brownsville border crossing, and a 275-spot project at the Port of Savannah, sponsored by the Georgia Ports Authority.

The funding for these projects can only be provided to public entities or public-private partnerships.
