Collector inaugurates high-level bridge across Pambaru river in Tirupattur
A new high-level bridge across the Pambaru river, a tributary of the Then Pennai river, was inaugurated in Natham village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur district on Thursday. The bridge, built at a cost of ₹2.48 crore, will provide easier access for residents of 13 farming villages along the river to nearby towns in Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, and Krishnagiri districts.
Collecting V. Nallasivan, accompanied by project director S. Thamilarasi of DRDA, officially opened the bridge and other public facilities including a fair price shop, two overhead tanks, and new classrooms for government primary schools, all for a total cost of ₹5.61 crore.
The new bridge replaces an old causeway, built over four decades ago and washed away during the 2021 floods. At 29.19 meters long and 7.5 meters wide, it can accommodate two buses and discharge around 30,000 cusecs of water per second. DRDA officials emphasized the importance of the bridge before the rainy season, stating that ambulances can now use it to reach villages along the river.
The construction included tiled footpaths, LED lights, rainwater inlets, reflectors, sign boards, and hand railings, along with approach roads connecting surrounding villages.
