Ashanti Region to get second Passport Application Centre by 2027

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ghana is set to enhance its passport application services in the Ashanti Region by introducing a second Passport Application Centre by the first quarter of 2027, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. Speaking during a visit to the Ashanti Regional Passport Application Centre, Mr. Ablakwa emphasized the need to bring services closer to applicants to alleviate the pressure on existing centres.

The Mobile Passport Application Centre, currently a temporary service, will become a permanent feature with its own dedicated staff to provide specialized services like visiting localities and institutions. The new centre in Ashanti Mampong aims to reduce the burden on existing centres and provide a more convenient location for applicants.

Apart from the new centre, the Ministry plans to open additional passport offices in the Upper East Region and other newly created regions. Mr. Ablakwa highlighted that the initiative is an innovative measure to generate revenue for the Ministry's operations, as data shows a surge in income due to such innovations. The Minister also announced the procurement of 20 new pick-up vehicles for all Passport Application Centres to improve efficiency and staff mobility.

He assured the staff of their priority welfare, urging them to expedite the delivery process and provide excellent customer service to applicants.
