Thirteen Municipal Corporations and 87 Municipalities in the State to go to polls on October 28; panchayat polls to be held in three phases
The State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Andhra Pradesh, Anil Chandra Punetha, announced the election schedule for local bodies on Wednesday. The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect, preventing the government from introducing new welfare schemes and development projects during the elections. The entire election process is set to conclude by December 2, 2026.
SEC also issued election notifications for 100 urban local bodies (ULBs), including 13 Municipal Corporations such as Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), and other civic bodies in Vizianagaram, Eluru, Machilipatnam, Guntur, Ongole, Nellore, Tirupati, Chittoor, Kadapa, Kurnool, and Anantapuram. The remaining 23 ULBs, consisting of four Municipal Corporations and 19 Municipalities/Nagar Panchayats, will have their election notifications issued in due course.
Returning Officers or Election Officers (ROs/EOs) will publish election notices on October 16, while nominations will be filed by October 18 and scrutinized on October 19. The last date for withdrawing nominations is October 21. ULBs are scheduled to hold polls on October 28, with results declared on October 30. The elections for Municipalities and Nagar Panchayats (MPTC and ZPTC) will proceed from October 19, with the final date for nominations being October 27.
The poll process will follow three phases for Gram Panchayats on November 26 and 29, and December 2, with results declared on the same days.
