‘The NY Yankees Need an A******’: MLB Insider Urges Replacing Top Coach With Specific Team Legend

A prominent New York Yankees insider believes the team urgently requires a formidable leader to bolster their clubhouse atmosphere. Despite finishing the 2025 season with a solid 93-win record, the Yankees were once again eliminated early in the American League Division Series. This setback follows a recent four-game sweep by the Tampa Bay Rays, extending their title drought to an 17-season mark.

Joel Sherman, a seasoned MLB analyst, argues that the organization's current success has led to a self-imposed bubble, where negative news is suppressed, resulting in an unrealistic and cliché-filled environment. He believes the Yankees lack a classic, no-nonsense figure who can hold players accountable while also providing encouragement.

Sherman proposes that the Yankees replace bench coach Brad Ausmus with a legendary figure to inject a sense of fear and accountability into the team. Gardner and Sabathia, both former Yankees who excelled both on and off the field, may have left their mark on the clubhouse. However, Sherman contends that the team needs a fresh perspective and a high standard enforced by a proven leader.

His ideal candidate is Jorge Posada, a six-time All-Star, four-time World Series winner, and a respected veteran from his 17 seasons with the New York Yankees. Posada served as a hitting coach for the Italian national team during the 2023 World Baseball Classic, showcasing his coaching abilities. While Sherman acknowledges that Posada may not take the bench coach position, he believes that bringing him back would provide the Yankees with a much-needed tough-guy leader to guide the team through future challenges.
