SEA Games 2027: Final list of sports events expected by end-October or early November, says organising committee CEO

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 — The final list of sports events for the 2027 SEA Games in Malaysia is anticipated to be finalized by the end of October or early November, according to the organizing committee's CEO, Datuk Abdul Rashid Yaakub. The Malaysia SEA Games Organising Committee, which is also responsible for the Asean Para Games in 2027, plans to host around 492 events across 43 sports.

However, the exact number has yet to be determined. Abdul Rashid stated that the preparation for the technical handbooks for each sport is underway and expects to finalize the number of events within the next two to three weeks. The estimated total number of athletes participating in the 2027 SEA Games is projected to range between 7,000 and 8,000, once participating countries submit their athletes' entries via the registration system.

Instead of a sports village, the organizers have opted to house athletes and officials in three-star hotels and above, with a preference for accommodations near the competition venues to facilitate transport arrangements. The 2027 SEA Games will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Penang, and Johor from September 18 to 29 next year.
