Dubai launches literacy platform to help parents guide children on safe use of AI

Dubai has introduced a new digital platform called GenDubAI, aimed at assisting parents in guiding their children's safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI). The platform was jointly launched by the Dubai Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DCAI), the Community Development Authority (CDA), and the Dubai Future Foundation, as reported by the state news agency Wam.

GenDubAI seeks to foster creativity, safeguard privacy, and enhance family involvement, aligning with Dubai's Social Agenda 33 and the UAE's Year of the Family.

The platform is available in both Arabic and English and is designed for families with children aged 8 to 15. It can be accessed via a mobile-friendly version of the website. GenDubAI provides engaging content rooted in UAE values and traditions, addressing critical questions about AI usage while fostering critical thinking and creativity in children. It also educates parents about the fundamentals and tools of AI, highlighting its potential benefits and challenges.

Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, the director general of the CDA, emphasized that the platform places families at the forefront of AI learning. She highlighted that this initiative reflects Dubai's dedication to preparing future generations by empowering young people to embrace technology confidently and responsibly, while preserving their values and identity.

Khalfan Belhoul, the chief executive of the Dubai Future Foundation, noted that the UAE is a global leader in AI adoption, with the use of smart devices among children continuing to increase. He stressed that knowledge of how to use AI safely and responsibly is one of the most valuable gifts parents can offer their children to help them succeed in the age of AI.

Saeed Al Falasi, the executive director of the DCAI, explained that GenDubAI is centered around the idea of "family moments." The platform offers content that can be seamlessly incorporated into daily life, encouraging meaningful discussions about AI within the home. Al Falasi added that GenDubAI will continuously evolve through new content, tools, and educational pathways to keep up with the rapid advancements in AI and the changing needs of families.
